Safety

From its very beginning RailAmerica has considered safety a top priority. We feel that it is an obligation to our employees, customers and to the public at large. In that regard, training and education on proper procedures are the first order of business prior to undertaking any task. Constant training and proficiency testing reinforce the importance we give to this subject.

Statement of Safety Policy

The following is a statement of safety policy from the RailAmerica Employee Safety Rule Book: It is the policy of RailAmerica that its operations be conducted in a safe manner. As an integral part of this policy, the management of RailAmerica believes that:

  • All accidents and injuries can be prevented.
  • We are committed to provide a safe work environment for all employees.
  • Employees of all levels are accountable for ensuring their own safety and the safety of their co-workers, preventing accidents and injuries, and having a positive safety attitude.
  • No job is so important, no service so urgent that we cannot take the time to perform all work safely.

Equal Employment Opportunity

In today's challenging and ever-changing business environment, well-qualified and motivated employees continue to be our greatest asset. It is our goal to attract, hire, train and promote valuable people with diverse cultural and social backgrounds. Achieving this goal is essential to the success of our company.

RailAmerica is committed to offering employment, training, advancement and all other privileges of employment on the basis of qualifications and performance, regardless of race, color, religion, national origin, age, disability, veteran status, marital status, sexual orientation or any other protected class.

Ethics

Professional business conduct and a reputation for integrity are key characteristics of RailAmerica and its 2,500 employees. The trust and respect of all people-- our co-workers, shareholders, the communities in which we serve-- are valuable assets of RailAmerica. It is the obligation of every employee to conduct business according to the highest ethical, moral and legal standards.

Diversity

Our corporation recognizes the value of a diverse employee population, representative of all walks of life. Diversity at RailAmerica is not just about the legal requirements of equal opportunity but also about a true respect for fellow employees and customers and a valuing of our differences.

Drug-Free Workforce

RailAmerica provides its employees with a safe and healthy work environment. The use of illegal drugs and abuse of other controlled substances, on or off duty, is inconsistent with the code of conduct for all employees of our corporation.
